As I said in my first review, the Sicce company sent me a new powerhead because the first one was defective, but it arrived broken in many pieces. Even the impeller shaft was broken. The screws on it were worn, indicating that it was something that had been returned. Sicce customer service then sent me another one, which was intact. It was about a month waiting on two replacements. It's a good thing I have a second filter or all my fish would be dead.
Reef Supplies claims that their return policy is fair to all customers by not allowing a return of an open or defective item. Amazon, Best Buy, Petsmart, Walmart. and many other companies allow returns of opened and defective items. So, is Reef Supplies claiming that these companies have a return policy that is unfair to customers? If so, that's quite a claim to make! I think the truth is that Reef Supplies has a return policy designed to serve the company alone.

You mentioned that larger retailers allow returns of opened or defective items. You are right about one thing: we DO NOT take back used items. This is what warranties are for. If, for example, you buy a pump and the impeller needs replacing, warranty sends you an impeller. We make no claims beyond what is clearly stated in our terms, which are transparent and fair. We are always here to help but will not, under any circumstances, shy away from our terms simply because of reviews like this. In fact we encourge reviews.

A second update of my review

Reef Supplies clearly states their return policy of which I was aware. Returns of opened items are not accepted, but I decided to order a Sicce Whale filter anyway because it gets very good reviews. So, I thought I wouldn't have to return it anyway. Well, the one I received was defective and the quick disconnect was very cheaply made and broke after the first use.
Reef Supplies keeps reminding me that they clearly state their return policy, but just because a policy is stated beforehand does not make it right.
I could say to someone I want to borrow your lawnmower and state clearly beforehand that I won't return it. If I borrow it and do not return it, I can claim that the other person was aware beforehand that I would do that, but does that make what I did right?
Reef Supplies keeps reminding me that I should use the warrany policy with a defective filter, which I did, and the issue was resoloved. But, it took almost a month to receive a working filter. In the meantime, I had to buy another filter to keep my fish alive. Now, I have a Sicce filter that I have no use for. If I had been allowed to return it and get my money back, that would only take a few days and I could have used the money to buy a new filter, maybe even a different brand from Reef Supplies themselves. It seems that Reef Supplies is working against themselves.
Reef Supplies says that it is a rare occurence that a Sicce filter is defective and that they sell only quality items that are seldom defective. Well, if that is the case, it would be rare that a person would return a defective item to them. So, what is the problem, then?
There is no logic or rational thinking to their policy.
Having said that, I want nothing from Reef Supplies. I would never get anything from them if I did. I am writing this review so that someone will bring some logical thinking into the situation and so that others will be wary before ordering from them.
