Reef Octopus Écumeur de protéines classique BH2000 HOB

Very good quality product, I was afraid I wouldn’t find a HOB protein skimmer that works well for my 180 gallon tank. But it started to skim really well dark green waste out of my tank. It’s satisfying knowing my tank is being cleaned &I can feed my tank much more due to this fact. The skimmer is relatively quiet, and the tank is looking sparkling clean!

Product received is different than product pictured, my unit came with 2 very bulky and ugly black cups that match each other perfectly for the inlet/outlet bubble stopper instead of the nice slim clear ones pictured here and everywhere else online. The outflow and inflow pipes with the outflow/inlet baskets are also extremely long for a reasonable water in the tank if i actually want them to skim the surface. The instructions are also very poorly written.

Unless I want an almost clear wet skim the only other option i can dial in on is a dark dry skim that take about 2 weeks to really put anything in the cup, most of it just collects in the skimmer neck. The micro bubbles have also never stopped. I’m definitely not impressed with this skimmer, but at the end of the day it’s quiet enough and still removes some stuff from the tank.
Would love to give it more stars but following many forum posts and various support threads i just cant get it working as intended.

Overall, it's a protein skimmer that does the job, and I recommend it. In addition, I gave it a 5 in spite of the commentary in the "disadvantages" section below, as there are no perfect protein skimmers and the flaws are minor. This is only my second protein skimmer. The first was from another manufacturer, but also a hang-on for my 30-gallon aquarium.
